Description: The use of efficient vulcanizing systems for the vulcanization of natural and synthetic polyisoprene rubbers is an established feature of rubber technology. Such systems provide a means of reducing or eliminating the reversion which is characteristic of such rubbers, except at very high curing temperatures. They also provide polyisoprene vulcanizates which are much more resistant to heat and which are more readily protected against oxidative aging than vulcanizates prepared using conventional sulfur vulcanizing systems. Efficient systems are obtained by using high acceleratorisulfur ratios and/or by replacing some or all of the sulfur by one or more sulfur donors. These changes have the effect of greatly increasing the proportion of thermally more stable monosulfidic crosslinks, while decreasing the proportion of crosslinks which are polysulfidic (less stable and more reactive).
