Description: Leaf physiological parameters and stomatal characteristics of 21 Hevea clones were studied using immature trees of about 4-5 years old planted in the ground nursery. Simple correlation study showed that stomatal conductance (SC) was significantly correlated to mature yield r2 = 49. A stepwise multiple regression revealed that SC accounted for about 20% of the variation in mature yield. Addition of other variables such as ratio of internal CO2 cencentration to ambient CO2 concentration (Ci/Ca), transpiration rate (TR), transpiration rate efficiency (WUEtr), length of stomatal complex (LSC) and width of stomatal complex (WSC) increased the coefficient of regression to 72.11%. Thus, the six selected variables might be a predictor for yield, and has a potential as a tool for early selection. However, confirmation of such relationship requires further investigation in a wider range of clones.
