Description: World trade is becoming increasingly competitive with consumers and purchasers of products wanting an assurance on the quality, reliability and safety of products they acquire. Similarly, regulatory authorities also need an assurance that products covered by the legislation meet the claims on which they are based. One way of providing this assurance is through certifying the product under an accredited product certification body. Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) has successfully obtained the accreditation from Standards Malaysia in 2006 to operate a product certification system for rubber and rubber products. Such a system provides an assurance that a product conforms to the specified requirements or standards and generally operates voluntarily in nature, although regulatory requirements may make it mandatory for certain products. Manufacturers that have been certified under the system will be granted the MRB mark, in addition to the issuance of Certificate of Conformity, to be displayed on their products, which conforms to the standards or specifications. The presence of the MRB Mark of Conformity will serve to differentiate against products which are not certified. In addition, it can be used as an additional marketing and promotional tool to the manufacturers to capture a better market share. Currently, there are two certifications available in the MRB Product Certification System namely Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) and Standard Malaysian Glove (SMG).
