Description: Land development is undoubtedly a major means of raising rural standards of living and of narrowing the economic imbalance between the races in Peninsular Malaysia. The selection of appropriate strategies and their actual implementation is a matter of considerable dispute, however, largely because of disagreement over the economic performance of the public-sector investments and over the employment opportunities generated. There is also widespread disagreement over what level of income is being earned by the rural families involved in different types of development and whether this is adequate. All these, of course, are empirical questions. In this book, an attempt has been made to provide some answers, first by collecting original data on yields, inputs and related socio-economic aspects and, second, by using the data for various analyses.
